A poker chip’s colour does not establish a universal value for your home game. Agree denominations first, then multiply each chip count by its assigned value. Tournament chip values are also separate from the prize pool.
Count a stack’s value
A colour chart is an agreement, not a rule
Write a small reference card before dealing, such as colour 1 = 0.25, colour 2 = 1, colour 3 = 5 and colour 4 = 25. These are example assignments, not a claim about every casino or chip set. If your chips have printed denominations, use those agreed values.
Different sets may reuse the same colours for different numbers. A player should be able to check the values without relying on memory or a generic internet colour chart.
Work through a stack
Eight 0.25 chips are worth 2 units; eight 1-unit chips are worth 8; two 5-unit chips are worth 10; and eight 25-unit chips are worth 200. The total is 220 units in 26 physical pieces.
This answers the value of a stack you already have. To distribute a limited chip set among players or build a blind schedule, use the distribution calculator rather than assuming every player can receive this sample stack.
Tournament chips and payouts are different quantities
A tournament stack of 10,000 is a score used to play hands, not a promise that it can be redeemed for 10,000 money units. Prize payouts depend on the agreed finishing structure. Keep the chip assignment sheet and prize schedule separate.
When changing out small denominations, preserve each stack’s represented value under your game’s procedure. Removing low-value pieces without replacing their value changes the stack, even if the colour looks tidier.
